Tibetan Technology Center
The Tibetan Technology Center is a charitable organization dedicated to harness modern technology for helping the Tibetan community in India.
The center is located at the Tibetan Children's Villages School (TCV) which host and supports it.
The center is managed by a board of directors who work closely and consult with a large group of local and International technology experts.
The center aims to become financially self-sufficient and generate income to be re-invested in the center and donated to TCV schools.
Some of the aims and goals of the center are:
• Coordinate, develop, guide and supervise IT education in all TCV Schools.
• Provide a centralized knowledge and support base for all technological needs of the Tibetan community-in-exile.
• Undertake specific technological projects and execute in a highly professional standard.
• Provide higher technological training and education to graduates of TCV schools.
• Generate employment opportunities for TCV graduates.
• Utilize and coordinate work of volunteers and external support groups for all technological projects.
Immediate targets and on-going projects:
• Provision of high-quality, low-cost, broadband Internet connectivity to non-profit organizations in the Dharamsala area.
• Leverage the unique Wireless-Mesh technology to generate public awareness toward the center and the community. The wireless-mesh and it’s underlying technology should be developed further as it generates great interest world-wide, which will enable partnership, involvement and new initiatives for the community.
• Teachers training program for IT education. The center is about to start a large-scale project to build a detailed training program for computer teachers. The program should be implemented in all TCV schools, while undergoing extensive testing and fine tuning.
• Multimedia laboratory/class for training graduates and students of class 11-12 in the fields of Sound mixing both for live recording, computer-aided video and sound editing, recording and production, computer animation and effects. This class should provide answers to an immediate growing need of the community in Dharamsala.
Tibetan Children's Villages (TCV) is a charitable organization registered under the Indian Societies Act of 1860. It focuses on the care and education of over 12,000 Tibetan refugee children in India.
TCV was founded in May of 1960 soon after His Holiness the Dalai Lama escaped from Chinese-occupied Tibet. Its mission is to ensure that the Tibetan children under its care achieve a firm cultural identity, achieve self-reliance, and become contributing members of the community and to the world at large.
